Working with Children’s POD Charity

When children are in hospital and unable to go home, this can be a miserable time for everyone. For a number of years, I’ve been working with POD Children’s Charity to offer entertainment at a time that can be quite upsetting.

POD is a nationwide charity whose vision is to work with 100% of hospitals in the UK who offer paediatric care and in doing so help ease the disturbance of a hospital stay by introducing entertainers who offer fun, laughter and want patients to feel better. I’m delighted to be an entertainer requested by POD to go into hospitals locally.

The smiles that I and other performers can offer, provides distinct and obvious happiness and joy to the lives to many children in hospital. Hospitals recognise the value in the entertainment I offer and is a crucial value to these children. Happy, entertained children get better quicker!

POD was founded in 1977. At this time, hospitals gave little thought to the emotional needs of sick children especially as longer stays were more common. Also, the quality and quantity of visiting times for parents were restricted, plus outside stimulus for children in hospitals was almost unheard of nor encouraged.

Thankfully, times have changed overwhelmingly. Working with POD Children’s Charity, I’m proud to bring smiles to ill children in hospital. It’s so incredibly fulfilling and rewarding, and it always puts a skip in my step. These children haven’t asked to be in hospital and through no fault of their own they need some treatment which means time away from the creature comforts of home. The smiles I get from the performances I give are very rewarding and I hope I made their stay just that little bit more comfortable.

I’m pleased to say another week is coming and I’m looking forward to giving more performances to help poorly boys and girls get better, quicker.
